CAIRO, Feb 24 (MENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy Gebaly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament Anita Demetriou to enhance parliamentary coordination between Egypt and Cyprus on issues of mutual concern.

The MoU was inked during a meeting held between Gebaly and Demetriou at the Parliament's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) on Monday.

During the meeting, the House speaker emphasized the importance of fostering Egypt-Cyprus cooperation in the fields of energy, electricity connection and tourism.

He also reiterated Egypt's firm stance towards resolving the Cypriot crisis in accordance with UN resolutions.

On her part, the Cypriot parliament speaker said her visit aims to push forward historical ties between the two countries, adding her country considers Egypt as a strategic partner in light of its pivotal and key role in the region.

Demetriou reaffirmed Cyprus' support for the two-state solution to resolve the Palestinian issue as per UN resolutions.

She also stressed Cyprus' support for Egypt within the EU. (MENA)
