CAIRO, Feb 20 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening Egypt’s tourism sector, as it has great economic importance and potential for job creation.
During a meeting with the advisory committee on tourism development, attended by Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy, members presented plans to attract more visitors, improve the travel experience, and encourage repeat visits.
For their part, committee members stressed the urgent need for more flights to Egypt, recommending private airline participation and the creation of aviation hubs to address shortages.
They suggested expanding Cairo and Marsa Alam airports to accommodate increasing demand.
Investors called for greater collaboration between the government and private sector, proposing faster hotel licensing, improved infrastructure, and simplified investment regulations. They also stressed the importance of a smooth visitor experience, from airport arrival to hotel stay and site visits.
During the talks, Fathy confirmed that several proposed initiatives are already in progress under the Supreme Tourism Committee, including the rollout of electronic visas.
He also suggested creating a central entity, "Investment Opportunities Bank," to manage tourism investments.
Madbouli concluded by directing the privatization of airport management, accelerating e-visa implementation, and streamlining licensing procedures for tourism businesses.
He also called for removing barriers to hotel development to increase Egypt’s accommodation capacity quickly. (MENA)
