CAIRO, Feb 17 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides witnessed the signing of a landmark energy efficiency agreement between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in Egypt and the Saudi Ministry of Energy.

The deal calls for devising an executive plan to cooperate in energy efficiency practices between the two countries.

Under the deal, the kingdom will share its expertise with Egyptian entities to improve energy efficiency practices.

The landmark agreement followed the inauguration of the eighth edition of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2025) conference and exhibition at the Al-Manara International Conference Center in New Cairo on Monday.

The agreement was co-signed by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat from the Egyptian side and Minister of Energy Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud from the Saudi side.

In a statement, the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry said that this partnership is aiming to cooperate in establishing a national program to improve energy efficiency practices in Egypt.

Both sides will act to prepare and fulfil the program through exchanging experiences and offering the technical support by the Saudi side, it added.

Moreover, they will outline necessary action mechanisms and plans to improve energy efficiency uses at the national level, according to the note.

As per the partnership, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will exchange knowledge and offer technical support in energy efficiency improvement, in addition to building human cadres through training courses and workshops.

The deal includes the development of energy services companies and promotion of infrastructure for energy efficiency improvement projects along with facilitating supply and investment mechanisms in these projects.

Egypt and the kingdom will mull the establishment of a specialized joint entity to carry out and develop renewable energy efficiency projects in Egypt in cooperation with Saudi TARSHID institution.

The two sides agreed on forming a joint mechanism for supervising the implementation and determining goals and performance indexes to monitor the fulfilment of the plan, in addition to the establishment of technical teams in charge of work tracks. (MENA)
