CAIRO, Feb 10 (MENA) - Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad held a meeting Monday with the technical mission of the World Bank (WB) to discuss results of current visit meant to review activities of the Greater Cairo Air Pollution Management and Climate Change Project implemented in cooperation with the World Bank at a cost of dlrs 200 million.

Taking part in the meeting were Ali Abu Senna, CEO of the Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), head of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA) Yasser Abdullah, National Coordinator of the Project, Representative of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and Representatives of the WB Mohamed Hassan.

The minister of environment was posted on the results of the mission’s review over the past days of activities covering the various components of the project, including the latest developments in the electric bus project - the first batch of which is expected to be delivered soon.

The minister referred to the outcome of the mission’s assessment of the current situation of implementing the integrated waste complex in 10th of Ramadan City, as well as the latest developments as for preparations to close the Abu Zaabal dumpsite in Qalyubiyya Governorate, the time frames for implementing the various activities and the financial framework and identifying the implementation challenges and how to overcome them.

Fouad discussed with the mission mechanisms to enhance the involvement of the private sector in the field of waste management.

For their part, representatives of the WB mission praised efforts exerted to complete the activities related to the components of the air pollution and climate change management project in Greater Cairo, as the past days witnessed a technical evaluation of related activities. (MENA)
