CAIRO, Feb 3 (MENA) - The Middle East News Agency (MENA) and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) signed a cooperation agreement to exchange news.

The agreement, which is the first in the two countries' history, was inked via video-conference by MENA Board Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Ahmed Kamal and NAN Managing Director Ali Muhammad Ali.

It aims to disseminate correct information about Egypt and Nigeria, deepen cooperation in the media field and counter fake news.

The deal comes within the framework of Egypt's keenness to strengthen relations with fellow African nations.

It represents an introduction to a series of news cooperation agreements between MENA and its African counterparts.

Kamal said this historic agreement opens up new horizons for cooperation in the news field.

He added Egypt and Nigeria seek to achieve a strategic balance in a world full of conflicts, foster cooperation based on the principle of mutual benefit among nations, and combat terrorism and corruption to bring about prosperity and progress for African countries.

On his part, the NAN managing director expressed his country's appreciation of Egypt's efforts to realize peace and stability in Africa, through its effective involvement in peacekeeping missions across the continent, with a view to bolstering stability, countering terrorism and attaining sustainable development.
