CAIRO, Jan 27 (MENA) - Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs Ambassador Ihab Awad and Director for Sub-Saharan Africa & the Sahel at Germany's Federal Foreign Office Christoph Retzlaff chaired a consultation session on Africa here on Monday.

The two sides shared their views on the most prominent developments at the African level, especially in the situation in Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and the Sahel region.

They also discussed counterterrorism efforts in Africa, as well as the Nile water dispute.

The talks also covered prospects of mutual cooperation on some issues of common concern in Africa, including Egypt's peacebuilding efforts in Africa, whether the post-conflict reconstruction efforts led by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, or the efforts made by the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA).

The Egyptian side also highlighted Egypt's development role in Africa.

During the talks, the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD) briefed the German side on its ongoing and future development activities in Africa.

The talks were held as part of some international and regional actors' interest in consulting with Cairo on African affairs, given Egypt's growing role in Africa, especially in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel regions, to ensure regional security and stability. (MENA)
