DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 23 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly asserted that he is looking forward for a planned visit of his Croatian counterpat to Egypt on February 18, emphasizing the depth of relations between the two countries and keenness on strengthening ties and increasing trade exchange.
This came during a meeting he had with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković of Croatia on the sidelines of his participation in the third day of the 2025 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The talks were attended by Mohamed Negm, Egypt’s Ambassador to Switzerland.
Madbouly said that Egypt recently opened a RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) shipping route with Italy, expressing the desire to do the same with Croatia. He also highlighted Egypt’s readiness to provide skilled labor for the Croatian market and to enhance cooperation in the oil sector.
He urged for more Croatian support for efforts aimed at strengthening relations between Egypt and the European Union, given the close and strategic relationship between the two countries. He also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to reach a Gaza ceasefire deal in partnership with Qatar and the United States, as well as its contribution to implementing all its stages, providing humanitarian aid to the war-torn strip, and helping in its post-war reconstruction process.
At the beginning of the meeting, Plenković sent his greetings to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and expressed his eagerness to visit Egypt in February to follow up on cooperation proposals between the two countries, saying that he would be bringing along a group of businesspeople to discuss avenues of joint cooperation.
The Croatian premier stressed that both countries share the same view as regards preserving the security and stability of the Mediterranean region.
He also said that the security and stability of the Middle East are crucial to those of Europe, especially in light of the challenges posed by illegal migration. He emphasized readiness to enhance cooperation with Egypt in bringing skilled labor to Croatia, noting the necessity of laying out an official framework to regulate this matter so as to meet his country’s need for skilled workers.
