CAIRO, Jan 20 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised Belgium's support for the Egyptian interests within the European Union, especially as regards the European financial package offered to Egypt.

Abdelatty said Egypt is looking forward to Belgium's constant support for the disbursement of the 4-billion-euro second tranche of the 7.4-billion-euro EU financing package for the country.

The foreign minister's remarks came at a meeting with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo on Monday.

Abdelatty conveyed the greeting of the president of Egypt to the Belgian prime minister.

He commended relations binding Egypt and Belgium and said he is looking forward to strengthening economic, trade and investment ties and tapping new vistas of joint cooperation.

Egypt is providing promising chances in several sectors including renewable energy, green hydrogen and the management of ports and logistics, according to him.

Abdelatty hailed the Belgian position which supports the Palestinian cause and was keen on posting De Croo on Egypt's efforts, in cooperation with Qatar and US, to reach a deal on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages and prisoners.

He underlined the importance of implementing the Gaza deal with no delay.

The foreign minister called on EU Member States to continue backing humanitarian efforts and offering assistance to Gaza along with jump-starting early recovery projects which would pave the way for the beginning of the reconstruction process in the war-devastated Palestinian enclave.

Abdelatty emphasized the two-state solution is the only way to achieve peace and ensure security and stability in the Middle East region.

He also expressed the Egyptian stand on the latest developments in Syria and stressed the need of attaining a comprehensive political process with the participation of all parties in the country. (MENA)
