CAIRO, Jan 14 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and US President Joe Biden held a phone conversation on Tuesday to discuss ongoing mediation efforts by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees.
Both leaders reviewed the progress of negotiations and stressed the need for all parties to demonstrate flexibility and remove obstacles to finalize an agreement.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed el-Shenawy stated that President Sisi underscored the urgency of reaching an immediate ceasefire to alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ensure unrestricted delivery of aid, and prevent further escalation that could have devastating consequences for the region.
The call also addressed the importance of continuing to strengthen Egypt-US bilateral relations, emphasizing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Sisi extended his best wishes to Biden as he approaches the end of his presidential term in January 2025, expressing hopes for continued collaboration in addressing regional and international challenges. (MENA)
