CAIRO, Jan 11 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty reiterated on Saturday Egypt's commitment to support Somalia's efforts to achieve security and stability, as well as maintain the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty also emphasized Egypt's keenness on offering all needed technical support and expertise needed to enhance Somalia's capabilities in addressing security challenges and supporting national institutions.
Abdelatty made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with Somalia's Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi.
He highlighted the deeply-rooted historic relations binding Egypt and Somalia, emphasizing the importance of boosting bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The two ministers discussed the latest developments concerning replacing the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) by the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
They stressed the importance of expediting the launch and activation of AUSSOM, as well as providing needed financing.
They highlighted the necessity of supporting the efforts exerted by Somalia's National Army in confronting terrorism and promoting stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
The two sides commended the ongoing important visit by Somalia's defense minister to Cairo.
They also agreed to continue coordination within the framework of the joint ministerial committee which is meant to follow up on the implementation of the outcomes of the trilateral summit held among Egypt, Somalia and Eritrea in October, 2024.
They agreed to build on the efforts exerted by the leaders of the three countries to promote security and stability in the Horn of Africa and the Red sea region. (MENA)
