CAIRO – NEW YORK, Dec 21 (MENA) – The UN General Assembly has re-elected Egypt to the Peacebuilding Commission for the 2025-2026 term.
Ambassador Osama Abdel Khalek, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized that the re-election reflects Egypt's prominent role in peacebuilding efforts, both regionally and globally.
Under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Egypt has led efforts in post-conflict reconstruction, particularly in Africa, and is home to the African Union’s Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development.
This re-election comes ahead of a comprehensive review of the UN’s peacebuilding framework in 2025, where Egypt will play a key role in shaping future peace initiatives and securing sustainable funding for peacebuilding efforts across Africa. (MENA)
