CAIRO, Dec 19 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Thursday with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the G-8 Summit for Economic Cooperation in the New Administrative Capital.
The two presidents exchanged views on regional developments and ways to restore peace in the region, the spokesperson at the presidency said.
Sisi highlighted the importance of defusing regional tension and avoiding escalation, stressing the need for all parties to exercise wisdom in order to protect the region from dangerous confrontations that will have serious repercussions on peace and security in the Middle East and the world as a whole.
The meeting addressed the situation in the Palestinian territories, where Egyptian efforts to cease fire and enforce humanitarian aid were reviewed, and the two sides also exchanged views on the situation in Lebanon and Syria.
The meeting also discussed joint efforts to explore prospects for developing bilateral relations in a way that serves the interests of the two peoples and contributes to supporting stability in the Middle East region. (MENA)
