CAIRO, Dec 2 (MENA) – Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed the importance of international support to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Meeting with UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed on the sidelines of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance the Humanitarian Response in Gaza Monday, Abdelatty said participants should send a firm political message pressing for an immediate ceasefire and a halt to Israel’s daily violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
He praised efforts exerted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres over the past months in this regard.
The top diplomat underscored continued Egyptian attempts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated Cairo’s commitment to permanently cooperating with the UN to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
Egypt rejects the Israeli military presence on the Palestinian side of Rafah Crossing and the Philadelphi Corridor, as well as Israeli acts to hinder the flow of aid to Gaza, Abdelatty stressed.
He also voiced support for the UNRWA and rejected Israel’s decision to suspend activities of the international body in Gaza. (MENA)
