CAIRO, Nov 26 (MENA) - Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed the importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire and fully delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza without restrictions from Israel.
He was speaking during a ministerial meeting in the Italian city of Fiuggi on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
The top diplomat talked about Israel's continued aggression on Gaza and its blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law for over one year. This, he noted, has led to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in the region.
He also condemned Israel's approach meant to displace the Palestinians. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's complete rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinians and undermine work of the UNRWA, which plays an essential role in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He also warned of the hazardous situation in the West Bank due to Israel's continued policy of settlement expansion and calls to annex parts of the West Bank.
All these policies hinder efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state with contiguous territory in line with international resolutions and based on the two-state solution, Abdelatty said.
The foreign minister also talked about the latest developments in Lebanon, stressing the need to reach an immediate ceasefire and implement UN Security Council resolution no. 1701.
It is important to empower Lebanese establishments, atop of which the army, and stop Israel's violations of Lebanon's sovereignty, Abdelatty said. (MENA)
