CAIRO, Nov 25 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty participated in the 23rd extraordinary session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, held virtually on Monday to address the AU's membership in the G20 group.

Highlighting the benefits of the AU's membership in the G20 for the African continent, Abdelatty said it offers an opportunity to put African priorities on the global agenda amid rising financial and economic challenges in African countries.

These priorities include financing for development, reforming multilateral banking policies, and addressing sovereign debt challenges, the minister noted.

Abdelatty asserted Egypt's willingness to provide all means of support to ensure the success of South Africa's presidency of the G20.

He also underlined the importance of enhancing the engagement of AU member states in formulating and updating AU's priorities and evaluating AU's regular participation in the G20 meetings.

Abdelatty hailed the AU Commission's commitment to good governance and transparency, which has been demonstrated by the Commission's recent report on the progress made in reviewing AU financial and administrative matters.

He stressed the need to build on positive developments while working for addressing any challenges related to governance and oversight frameworks to enhance transparency and follow-up standards for institutional performance. (MENA)
