CAIRO, Nov 24 (MENA) - The Arab League (AL) Council at the level of permanent delegates on Sunday warned of Israel's "dangerous" escalation that could lead to a catastrophic region-wide war.

The council reiterated calls for the world community, particularly the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to shoulder the legal and moral responsibility to stop threats of Israel’s escalations and undermine its aggressive policies in accordance with international law and international legitimacy resolutions.

Today's session saw the adoption of a resolution to promote the international support aimed at confronting measures taken by Israel to expand its aggressive and escalating practices in the region.

That came at the close of the council's extraordinary meeting, which was held at the AL General Secretariat’s premises under the presidency of Yemen, at the behest of Iraq and with the support of all member states.

As the Security Council meeting of 18 November concluded, regional delegations, condemning the horrific aggression being wrought upon the Palestinian people by Israel, along with that the Israeli attacks against Lebanon, urged the 15‑nation organ to adopt a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza before famine consumes it and the dangerously escalating violence engulfs the entire Middle East.

The council condemned crimes of the aggression, genocide and ethnic cleansing committed by Israel against the Palestinian people and aggression crimes in Lebanon and Syria in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

The council vehemently denounced practices by the Israeli occupation against UNRWA and UNIFIL and Israel's never-ceasing assaults targeting residential districts, buildings and utilities in Syria, which "are jeopardizing regional and international peace and security."

Additionally, the AL's Council strongly condemned the use by the United States of its veto power for the fourth time against a UNSC's resolution that called for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire and an end to the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. (MENA)
