CAIRO, Oct 16 (MENA) - The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has urged the confidentiality of banking data, including bank cards, such as its number, expiry date, pin number, CVV, and OTP, as well as national ID data.

In a statement, the CBE said Wednesday banks will not ask their customers to update their data except at the bank's headquarters or through the banks' secure electronic applications and not through any other means of communication.

The statement warned citizens against mobile phone messages, e-mails, and electronic links received from unreliable sources, as well as phone calls in which their owners impersonate fake titles and jobs and claim that they are employees of the CBE or any other bank, with the aim of obtaining personal and banking data to seize customers' money.

The CBE called on citizens dealing with the banking sector not to be led by these attempts to seize their banking information and to immediately inform the banks they deal with of these attempts. (MENA)
