ASMARA, Oct 10 (MENA) - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has discussed with his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki bilateral relations and regional conditions.

Egypt and Eritrea have issued a joint statement in which they affirmed their absolute respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the region’s countries.

In the statement released on Thursday, the two countries emphasized their rejection of interference in the internal affairs of countries of the region under any pretext or justification.

The statement was issued after extensive consultations between the Egyptian and Eritrean leaders in the Eritrean capital Asmara with regard to bilateral relations, crucial regional and international issues, as well as the opportunities available to develop bilateral relations with a view to meeting the aspirations of the two countries’ peoples.

According to the statement, the two sides agreed on the necessity of adhering to the basic principles and pillars of international law as they are the indispensable basis for regional stability and cooperation.

Egypt and Eritrea underscored the need to work on creating a climate conducive to common and sustainable development as well as enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields to achieve the aspirations of the two countries’ peoples towards development and prosperity.

They also called for intensifying bilateral political consultation on various regional and international issues in addition to geopolitical developments of common interest through the launch of a political consultation committee at the level of foreign ministers in order to promote joint cooperation and coordination.
