CAIRO, July 3 (MENA) - General Abdel Meguid Saqr was sworn in before President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday as the country's newly-appointed defense and military production minister.

Born on June 27,1955, Saqr graduated from the Military Academy in 1977. He holds a Bachelor of Military Science from the Military Academy.

He also holds a Master's in Military Science from the Command and Staff College, and a fellowship from the Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies.

Saqr held various leading positions throughout his career, including the Director of the Artillery Institute, Deputy Director of Recruitment and Mobilization Administration, Director of Civilian Employees Affairs in the Armed Forces, Deputy Director of the Military Academy, and Director of the Command and Staff College.

He also served as Military Police Chief, Assistant Defense Minister and was also appointed as Suez Governor in 2018.

Saqr received many medals and decorations, including the Republic Medal (Second Class), Military Duty Decoration (First Class) and the Long Service, Good Conduct Medal, Silver Jubilee Medal for October Victory, Golden Jubilee Medal for July 23 Revolution and Silver Jubilee Medal for the Liberation of Sinai.
