CAIRO, July 1 (MENA) - Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip represents a real humanitarian catastrophe after nearly eight months have passed since the beginning of the war.

During a meeting Monday with Comfort Ero, head of the International Crisis Group, on the sidelines of his participation in the 4th edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, the minister said, as per international law and international humanitarian law, Israel has a responsibility before the international community to stop the war and end this utterly catastrophic humanitarian situation.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, at the onset of the meeting, the minister of foreign affairs said Egypt highly appreciates recommendations and studies issued by the Group related to many conflicts around the world, especially in the Middle East and Africa, and holds in high esteem its suggestions on ways to resolve them.

The International Crisis Group is an independent organization working to prevent wars and shape policies that will build a more peaceful world.

Crisis Group says its mission is to sound the alarm to prevent deadly conflicts and build support for the good governance and inclusive politics that enable societies to flourish. Part of its mission is to engage directly with a range of conflict actors to seek and share information, and to encourage intelligent action for peace. (MORE)
