CAIRO, June 29 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has emphasized the need for concerted international efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and get urgent and sufficient lifesaving assistance into the war-ravaged enclave to avert a further humanitarian catastrophe.

During a meeting with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the margins of the Egypt-EU Investment Conference here on Saturday, Sisi also reiterated his warnings against the growing risk of a spillover from the escalating Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Sisi called on the international community to take serious and urgent steps to prevent the region from relapsing into a new vicious cycle of conflict on an unprecedented scale, according to Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

Discussing how to address mounting regional challenges, amid the recent developments in Gaza and their impact on regional security and stability, Sisi and the top EU diplomat agreed on the need to reach a just and comprehensive two-state solution to the Palestinian problem based on relevant international resolutions, as the best way to ensure sustainable regional stability, the spokesman noted.

Meanwhile, the EU official said the Egypt-EU conference highlights the union's commitment to supporting the development march and economic reform in Egypt.

The conference is the first major step in implementing the Egypt-EU Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership, according to her. (MENA)
