CAIRO, June 24 (MENA) - The ministries of electricity and petroleum said Monday that power cuts under the power shedding system would continue for an extra hour every day till the end of the week.

In a joint statement, the ministries said the plan to increase the duration of daily power cuts by an additional hour has already been enforced since yesterday.

The decision was taken to prevent the failure of the entire system when the rising demand strains the capacity of the national power grid, they explained.

They added that despite plans previously drawn up in coordination between them to supply the required fuel needed to meet the growing energy demands during the summer, yet the unprecedentedly extreme hot weather has necessitated taking the decision to extend the load shedding period from one to two hours a day.

The ministries promised that they will keep the public posted on any changes in this regard, according to the statement. (MENA)
