CAIRO, June 22 (MENA) - The higher education in Egypt has witnessed a remarkable leap in various scientific and research sectors throughout the past ten years, in light of continued support and follow up by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Egypt's higher education system has made several achievements as regards the development and upgrade under president Sisi, in order to be capable of fulfilling its academic and social roles, said Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour.

The number of universities in Egypt has recorded an increase surpassing 122 percent throughout the past decade to reach 109 public, ahleyya (non-profit) and private technological universities, compared to 49 universities in 2014.

The number of public universities nationwide reached 28 up from 23, while the number of the private ones increased from 23 to 32, the report showed.

Ahleyya universities across the country are now 20, while the technological ones are 10. However, an approval to set up 17 more universities will take the total number of Egypt's technological universities to 27.

The number of registered students at public and ahleyya universities stands at 2.2 million, while the total number of Egypt's university students, including those enrolled in private universities, records 3.5 million. (MORE)
