CAIRO, Feb 18 (MENA) - Egypt, the biggest supporter of the Palestinian cause, will expose before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Wednesday the Israeli violations against the Palestinians, and its practices that contradict all international norms and conventions.
This comes within the framework of efforts to support the Palestinian people at all political, diplomatic and legal levels.
In exclusive statements to MENA, diplomats say they will press world countries under moral responsibility to deal with the Palestinian issue.
Diplomats unanimously agreed that Egypt’s participation in the advisory opinion requested by the United Nations General Assembly from the ICJ regarding Israeli policies and practices in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
Egypt will highlight all serious violations committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, including torture, murder, and displacement, they told MENA.
In this context, Egypt’s former representative to the United Nations Commission on International Law, Ambassador Dr. Hussein Hassouna, says that Egypt will emphasize its firm and supportive position for the Palestinian cause and the necessity of ending this unjust occupation.
It will also expose the occupation’s practices over 7 decades, which today have reached a scheme to evacuate Gaza, he further said.
The issue has become clear to the world since the events of October 7, 2023. This plan was documented by cameras and witnessed by the whole world, thanks to the technological development of means of communication, he added.
The former assistant foreign minister said Egypt would shed light on Israel's practices of stealing and annexing Palestinian lands, building settlements, arming settlers, as well as displacing, mass killing, and practicing the policy of apartheid, which will help the ICJ express its decision.
Egypt previously submitted its written opinion to the court, but this time it will be verbal, and it will demand the necessity of stopping the practices of the illegal Israeli occupation, saving the Palestinians who are being killed day by day, and giving them their legitimate right to establish an independent state in accordance with international legitimacy and the decision to divide Palestine that was issued 77 years ago.
For her part, former assistant foreign minister ambassador Laila Bahaa El-Din, believed that Cairo would confirm in its memo before the ICJ its firm stance before regional and international forums and conferences, supporting the Palestinian cause, and rejecting the ongoing practices of the Israeli occupation.
It is likely that the oral argument that Egypt will present before the ICJ, February 21, the illegitimacy of the Israeli occupation, which has lasted for more than 75 years in violation of international law, and the rejection of the policies of persecution and racial discrimination practiced by Israel in flagrant violation of international humanitarian principles and laws.
For his part, former assistant foreign minister, ambassador Salah Halima, said that Egypt’s plea is of great importance, and also supports South Africa’s lawsuit.
He added that Egypt's plea will be met with support from about 60 countries that basically support the prosecution of Israel and the Palestinian cause, considering that this step by Cairo is a confirmation of the accusation directed against Israel, especially with the presence of evidence against the occupying country.
