NEW ALAMEIN, July 16 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said on Wednesday that the government would address properties at risk of partial or total collapse to reach solutions.
He highlighted that Alexandria Governorate, due to its climate and the rapid deterioration of properties, is under intense pressure from this phenomenon, making it the government's top priority.
The government will also extend its focus to other governorates.
Speaking at a press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting today in New Alamein city, Madbouli said the state is tackling the housing issue on multiple fronts.
The first was unsafe areas, which, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, have been largely eliminated, benefiting around 300,000 families.
He noted that the second focus was on young couples preparing for marriage and families without housing alternatives, noting that the housing crisis, for the past 15 years, has been a major burden for these households.
Part of this problem, he explained, stems from old rental laws where property maintenance was the owner's responsibility, but they received negligible rent.
This led to owners neglecting maintenance, resulting in a growing number of properties in need of repair. (MENA)
