CAIRO, June 12 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide, on the sidelines of Oslo Forum, to explore ways of enhancing bilateral relations as well as addressing pressing regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Abdelatty praised the positive developments in Egypt-Norway relations, both politically and economically, referring to meetings and phone calls held between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the Norwegian premier within this context.
He noted that President Sisi visited Norway in December 2024.
He welcomed the planned round of political consultations between the two countries, thus activating the MoU signed during the presidential visit.
He voiced hope to hold regular rounds of political consultations at all levels to further bilateral ties.
Abdelatty welcomed economic cooperation between Egypt and Norway, especially in the field of renewable energy.
Abdelatty said he is looking forward to finalizing the ongoing projects of Norwegian firm Scatec in Egypt and carrying out new projects that would contribute to boosting Norwegian investments in Egypt.
He stressed the importance of enhancing trade exchange, highlighting the importance of encouraging the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) and the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) to increase financing for Norwegian companies operating in Egypt as well as new companies in the fields of clean energy and aquaculture.
He highlighted the importance of benefiting from the recent economic reforms carried out by Egypt.
Meanwhile, the two sides reviewed a number of regional issues, topped by the conditions in the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty commended Norway’s supportive stance for the Palestinian rights and international law.
He updated his Norwegian counterpart on Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid access to ease the suffering of civilians.
He urged intensifying international efforts for the Palestinians to restore their rights, topped by establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital.
On Sudan, he asserted Egypt’s continued support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity. (MENA)
