CAIRO, June 4 (MENA) - The General Secretariat of the Arab League (AL) affirmed the urgent need to implement United Nations (UN) General Assembly and Security Council resolutions to preserve international peace and security—foremost among them Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973) and International Court of Justice
advisory opinions.

The pan-Arab body's general secretariat Wednesday
called for compelling the Israeli occupation to halt genocide in the Gaza Strip and end the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people by immediately opening all crossings, ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid to meet the needs of Gaza’s residents, and providing political and financial support for the UNRWA and other UN activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In a statement issued Wednesday by the AL’s Department of Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories on the occasion of the Naksa (setback), the Secretariat urged all countries to take necessary measures to end the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and enable Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish their independent, sovereign state with Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The League called on all nations to join efforts to implement the two-state solution as the only path to achieving security, peace, and stability in the region.

It also urged participation in the upcoming international peace conference scheduled for June 2025 in New York and called on countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take the step that would help promote peace and regional stability.

The AL marked the 58th anniversary of the Naksa, which occurred on June 5, 1967, and the Israeli aggression that led to the occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, and the Syrian Golan Heights.

The tragic consequences of that occupation continue to this day and have escalated with Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people, it said.

This year’s Naksa commemoration comes amid ongoing violations and crimes by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank and the genocide against Gaza’s population, the AL added. (MENA)
