CAIRO, June 2 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had a meeting on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which they asserted full commitment to fostering bilateral relations.

The meeting took place in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad.

In statements, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy said that during the meeting, Minister Araghchi conveyed Iranian President Masoud Bezhkian's greetings to President Sisi.

The talks covered the recent developments in the region. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's firm stance against the expansion of conflict, stressing the urgent need to de-escalate tensions to avoid slipping towards the precipice of a full-scale regional war.

Such a war, he further noted, would have grave consequences for the security and stability of all countries and peoples in the region.

On this score, President Sisi highlighted the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States as a decisive step in addressing regional tensions.

He called for reaching an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the swift delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid to Gazans.

He underlined the importance of restoring normal maritime traffic in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea to ensure regional stability.

For his part, Minister Araghchi lauded Egypt’s role to restore regional stability, reaffirming Iran's commitment to continuing consultations with the Egyptian side in the coming period. (MENA)
