CAIRO, May 21 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty expressed his aspiration to continue joint cooperation to encourage European investments in Egypt, in light of the Egyptian government's priority goal of attracting more foreign direct investment.

This came during talks held by the top diplomat on Wednesday with European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Sučia on the sidelines of the African-European ministerial meeting in Brussels, according to a press release by the foreign ministry.

Abdelatty welcomed the ongoing coordination with the European Commission on various issues of mutual interest, expressing Egypt's keenness to continue cooperating with the European Commissioner to implement the six axes of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, particularly the economic component of the strategic partnership.

He also expressed Egypt's hope to receive the second tranche of the European financial support package and implement the outcomes of the Egyptian-European Investment Conference held at the end of June 2024.

The minister addressed the issue of migration, stressing the importance of linking migration and development files, addressing the root causes of illegal migration, and strengthening partnerships in the field of regular migration, especially given the economic burdens borne by the Egyptian government in connection with hosting more than 9.5 million foreigners.

He stated that the European Union's cooperation with the countries of the Southern Mediterranean should contribute to achieving mutual benefit for both sides and focus on increasing investment and economic and development cooperation. (MENA)
