CAIRO, May 13 (MENA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan reiterated their firm rejection of forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.
They underlined the importance of pursuing a just and durable political settlement of the Palestinian cause under the two-state plan which called for establishing an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem (Al Quds) as its capital.
The two ministers made the remarks during a phone call held as part of ongoing communication to promote Egypt-Turkey relations and exchange views on the latest developments in the Middle East.
Abdelatty lauded a boost in the Egyptian-Turkish relations in light of the increasing number of high-level visits.
He expressed hope to continue joint efforts to bolster economic and trade cooperation and enhance Turkish investments in Egypt.
The ministers reviewed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip in light of the humanitarian disaster there amid the ongoing Israeli aggression.
Abdelatty briefed his Turkish counterpart on Egypt’s efforts, in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, to resume ceasefire, secure the release of hostages and prisoners, and ensure access of humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid into Gaza.
The two ministers also discussed the upcoming steps of the Arab-Islamic ministerial committee, which includes Egypt and Turkey, to mobilize international support for the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.
Abdelatty posted Fidan on preparations for a Cairo international conference on Gaza reconstruction which is due to be held once a ceasefire agreement is reached.
Meanwhile, the two ministers also exchanged view on the latest developments in Libya.
Abdelatty asserted Egypt’s support for Libyan national institutions, calling for maintaining Libya’s unity and territorial integrity.
He underlined the importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible. (MENA)
