ATHENS, May 7 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted the importance of the High-Level Cooperation Council between Egypt and Greece, saying it represents a "quantum leap" in bilateral ties.

The council is boosting deep consultation and coordination between the two countries over issues of mutual concern, added Sisi.

The president said the council is also supporting bilateral economic and developmental cooperation, in addition to the exchange of experiences in vital domains such as transport, environment, maritime security, education and energy as well as combating illegal emigration and terrorism.

President Sisi gave the remarks while co-chairing with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis the first meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council between Egypt and Greece in Athens.

Presidential spokesman Mohamed el Shennawi said the meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation track and the workflow of ongoing projects in the different fields, topped by the electrical interconnection project, which is considered an important strategic step toward the promotion of energy security in the region and EU.
