CAIRO, May 4 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Sunday his talks with President Azali Assoumani of Comoros reflected a mutual understanding and alignment of views on regional and international issues of common concern, including African Union affairs, the conditions in Gaza and Sudan, developments in the Horn of Africa, Red Sea security, and counterterrorism efforts.

Egypt and Comoros agreed on the vital role of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in counterterrorism efforts, Sisi added during a joint press conference.

The President affirmed Egypt's full readiness to cooperate with the Comoros in various fields, especially in health, education, tourism, fisheries, energy, and infrastructure.

Both sides agreed to enhance trade exchange between the two countries, particularly in light of their membership in the COMESA bloc, in a way that supports the goals of regional and continental integration and strengthens intra-African trade.

Sisi expressed his deep appreciation for historic fraternal relations between Egypt and Comoros, and for the shared Arab, African, and Islamic identity that forms a strong foundation for expanding and deepening cooperation across various sectors.

He also emphasized the willingness of the Egyptian government and companies to support development plans in Comoros, especially the Comores Emerging Plan (PCE 2030), by transferring Egypt’s development expertise and implementing projects in fellow African nations across different economic sectors.

The discussions also covered development challenges, poverty alleviation, debt relief, and addressing the impacts of climate change.

The two presidents agreed on the importance of preserving unified African positions on key issues and ensuring fair African representation in international institutions. (MENA)
