CAIRO, Feb 26 (MENA) - Mohamed Ibrahim el Deweiry, the Deputy Director General of the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies (ECSS), Wednesday warned that the Arab region is going through the most difficult and worst phase in its modern history.
He noted that what is happening in the Gaza Strip is not only related to the Palestinian cause but also has a direct impact on Arab national security.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during a symposium on "displacement projects and the Palestinian cause" which was organized within the framework of a conference on "Gaza and the future of peace and stability in the Middle East".
He said "we are facing a catastrophe at the security, military, political, and economic levels that requires wise and serious handling."
He accentuated that this is the time for an Arab stance to confront the crisis with all available means.
He described the Palestinian schism in July 2007 as the "third Palestinian nakba" after the Nakbas of 1948 and 1967, because all recent Israeli wars have exploited this division.
He confirmed that the Israeli aggression would not have succeeded if there had been Palestinian unity.
He said all Arab countries - not only Egypt and Jordan - should face the Israeli plot against the Palestinian cause.
Deweiry reviewed Egypt's stance on the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian cause, highlighting Egypt's basic principles in this regard, topped by considering the Palestinian cause as part of Egypt's national security.
He expounded that every Egyptian move is serious and well-examined, aiming to achieve Egyptian, Palestinian, and Arab interests.
He asserted that Egypt's position on the Palestinian cause has not changed since 1948.
He recalled that 14 days after the October 7, 2023, incidents President Abdel Fattah El Sisi presented a road map at the Cairo International Peace Conference linked to resolving the Palestinian cause, sending a message that this issue has only a political solution.
In December 2023, Egypt also proposed a comprehensive vision for a ceasefire agreement, which is being implemented today in its three phases in Gaza, he added.
He highlighted Egypt's painstaking efforts in the difficult and complex negotiation process, praising the political leadership, the security delegation, and everyone working to implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
He stressed that Egypt warned that displacement to Sinai is a red line.
He reviewed Egypt's plan for rebuilding the Gaza Strip without displacing its residents. Cairo has a comprehensive scientific and practical plan, and Egypt looks forward to its support during the upcoming Arab Summit next week. (MENA)
