CAIRO, Nov 21 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed on Thursday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty expressed, during a phone contact with the top Iranian diplomat, Egypt's concern over the continued escalation in the region, underlining the importance of defusing tensions and exercising self-restraint at this critical stage.
He also underlined the need to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon.
He expounded contacts held by Egypt with different regional and international partners to de-escalate the situation.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's keenness on offering all political and humanitarian support to sisterly Lebanon.
The contact tackled the prolonged presidential vacuum in Lebanon as Abdelatty called on all Lebanese sides to reach a consensus and elect a new president of the country.
He also urged for supporting Lebanon's national institutions, especially the army, in implementation of UNSC resolution 1701.
As for the war-battered Gaza Strip, the top diplomat underlined the need to reach a ceasefire, warning that the continued Israeli escalation threatens a further expansion of the conflict in the region. (MENA)
