CAIRO, Oct 13 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Sunday met Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin on the occasion marking the end of his tenure as the IMF's executive director for Arab countries and the Maldives.

Mohieldin served as the IMF's executive director for two consecutive terms from 2020 to 2024.

The premier lauded several initiatives adopted by Mohieldin, including an initiative to establish the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) that provides concessional funding to help countries address longer-term challenges like climate change, as well as his role in mobilizing support for cutting additional costs imposed on loans to developing countries.

Madbouli thanked Mohieldin for his role as UN climate change high level champion for Egypt to ensure the success of the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) which was held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in 2022.

The prime minister wished Mohieldin success in his new position as the UN special envoy on financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On his part, Mohieldin thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the prime minister, the governor of the central bank of Egypt and all state bodies for their support before and during his tenure as the IMF's executive director.

Mohieldin briefed the premier on the IMF's efforts to support the development process in Egypt and all developing countries, expressing hope to cooperate with the Egyptian government through his post as the UN special envoy on financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. (MENA)
