CAIRO, Oct 13 (MENA) - Egypt has condemned Israel's decision to confiscate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Headquarters in Jerusalem and turn the site into a new settlement outpost.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry Sunday warned of the repeated Israeli attempts to end the activities of the UN body and the systematic campaigns to liquidate the Palestinian refugee issue, describing such attempts as a flagrant violation of the international law, the UN charter and relevant UN resolutions.

It appealed to the international community to shoulder responsibility in maintaining international peace and security in the aftermath of the campaigns in the occupied territories.

Israel announced on Thursday that the Jerusalem complex of UNRWA will be turned into an apartment complex, said Israeli press reports.

The UNRWA complex, located in Ma'alot Dafna, Jerusalem, is planned to become a housing project with 1,440 units. (MENA)
