CAIRO, Sept 19 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has emphasized the importance of working to establish an independent Palestinian state and create a political horizon for the Palestinian people in a way that ensures that they regain their legitimate rights, most importantly their right to self-determination.

Abdelatty made the remarks during separate meetings he held on Thursday at the Congress headquarters in Washington with Republican Representative Mike Rogers, Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations as well as Senator Lindsey Graham.

The foreign minister expressed thanks to members of the US Congress for supporting the US-Egypt strategic partnership, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf said.

The meetings witnessed mutual appreciation for military relations between both countries, which represents a pillar of bilateral partnership.

Abdelatty and the congressmen reviewed the most significant developments in bilateral relations and the positive developments Egypt witnesses at the economic and social levels.

The foreign minister expounded the state’s efforts to enhance political and civil rights as well as economic reform efforts.

He also highlighted Egypt’s focus on attracting foreign investments based on the opportunities provided by the Egyptian economy in many fields such as the pharmaceutical industry as well as new and renewable energy.

The foreign minister reviewed Cairo’s role and efforts in terms of reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to intensify efforts to bring humanitarian aid into the enclave in a way that is commensurate with the humanitarian catastrophe caused by Israel. (MENA)
